  • Overview and Responsibilities

    Addressable advertising is a key pillar of Viacom’s growth strategy.  This role, within Viacom’s technology organization (MTS), is responsible for developing and supporting the use of the technology required to sell and deliver addressable ads.


    • Oversee the data management (DMP) capabilities that connect to Viacom’s ad sales stack and first party digital products.  Ensure the company has the right blend of first and third party capabilities to meet its business, operational and technical objectives
    • Bring a technical point of view to strategic conversations about user data across the Viacom business, consult on ad sales, distribution or corp dev initiatives as needed
    • Partner with key stakeholders to capture business requirements and lead the effort to deliver the technologies, partnerships and business processes to meet them
    • Work collaboratively across the organization to prioritize development of new capabilities and develop business cases that inform prioritization of ad platforms roadmap
    • Oversee the operational application of technical capabilities by developing and implementing business processes
    • Maintain a complete understanding of trends in advertising and technology and how Viacom can best position itself, clearly articulate this vision across the organization – themes of particular importance include big data, and optimization
    • Work cross functionally to ensure technology gains successful traction by leading and participating in business initiatives and training programs.  Supervise and write documentation and training materials
    • Contribute to relevant macro-level strategic initiatives (i.e. convergence between digital and traditional TV advertising)
    • Strategically manage partnerships with key vendors (Adobe, Google, Freewheel etc.) to ensure a strong working relationship and optimal economics.  Leverage an intimate understanding of partner capabilities and roadmaps to ensure Viacom is delivering the best possible capability set
    • Maintain an active and visible role in the ad-tech ecosystem to identify the best potential partners and lead a vetting process where opportunities exist, play an active role with the IAB and other relevant industry groups

    Basic Qualifications

    • 5+ years is a product management role at an ad tech, streaming video or media company
    • Exposure to addressable video/TV advertising
    • Domain expertise: Deep understanding of ad tech ecosystem, preferably with sell side experience with a major media company and comfort in the B2B or SaaS space.  Familiarity with ad serving and data management platforms – specifically Freewheel, DFP and Adobe Audience Manager
    • Product/strategic leadership: Can drive an initiative from conception to maturity by identifying a business opportunity and developing a technology solution that provides value to the customer
    • Communication skills: Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to a broad range of audiences
    • Technical skills:  Engineering background a plus, ability to go deep on technical issues to brainstorm and evaluate technical solutions and troubleshoot issues in partnership with engineering team required
    • Executional chops: Can process a large volume of work in an ambiguous and fast changing environment.   Can manage a complex project with many dependencies by seeing the big picture, managing the details and risks
    • Generalist/expert: Enough of a generalist to see products from all perspectives (ops, sales, tech, research, finance) with a corresponding ability to go deep into the details of Viacom’s ad platforms
    • Resourcefulness: Finds a way to get from point a to point b when the answer isn’t obvious

    Additional Qualifications

    • Experience working with ad sales organization a strong plus
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred
