Overview and Responsibilities

This position requires a “hands-on”, self-starter with fundamental business skills, strategic thinking and an eye towards constant process improvement.  Communicating with business unit personnel and proving to be a reliable business partner is essential.  Overall Tax Department directional guidance will be provided by the VP-Global Tax Compliance, however, this position must possess the initiative to proactively interface with and learn the business.  The position reports directly to a Tax Manager-Compliance.  Assists in the preparation of federal, state & local income tax returns, estimates and other miscellaneous tax returns for various corporations included in the Viacom group

Basic Qualifications

  • Collect detailed balance sheet and income statement data from division, summarize data into tax return format using Corptax and reconcile amounts to divisions financial reports. Analyze accounts for tax significance; prepare workpaper documentation; and record/input appropriate tax journal entries in Corptax.
  • Collect detailed information from divisions pertaining to state income/franchise tax filing obligations for purposes of preparing state tax returns. Request detailed information from business units and prepare apportionment formula workpapers and state tax returns utilizing Corptax.
  • Prepare schedules computing and forecasting depreciation of fixed assets under the various methods required for tax purposes.
  • Handle correspondence with, and written inquiries from, tax authorities.
  • Assist in updating and maintenance of Corptax, as well as the maintenance of the Viacom corporate tax calendar.
  • Assist on audits and other special projects, as required. 


Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in  Accounting
  • CPA and/or Master Degree a plus
  • 1-3 years experience in tax preparation
  • Public accounting experience
  • SAP, Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) and Corptax preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively with divisions and Taxing authorities, e.g. Federal, State and Local.
