Overview and Responsibilities

Paramount Pictures, America's oldest film studio, is a major global producer and distributor of filmed entertainment. 

The Production Operations & Technologies team is responsible for the planning, design, and acquisition of digital distribution hardware and software systems. The role will help architect, build, and maintain live technology workflows. VGEG brands like MTV, Comedy Central, Spike, BET, etc., will look to the team for their expertise and determining project requirements. This position will report to the Director of Streaming Architecture & Emerging Technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for research, planning, design, documentation, implementation, and training of Live Streaming Technologies
  • Partner and understand the requirements of the business Stakeholders
  • Work directly with Infrastructure team to accurately determine networking requirements and ensure adequate connectivity to CDN and social partners from VGEG streaming originations
  • Researches, tests, evaluates, and documents new software and hardware to fulfil project requirements
  • Maintains current knowledge of hardware, software, and network technology and recommends modifications as necessary
  • Performs regression testing of new software builds for actively supported systems to ensure full compatibility with existing workflows and processes
  • Optimizes existing workflows; Suggests new technologies for streamlining existing processes
  • Identifies, documents, and resolves potential technical support issues utilizing the appropriate resources within the company
  • Provides on-site setup and configuration of live streaming equipment for major tent-pole events from software installation to delivery of live content to large-scale audiences

Basic Qualifications

  • Knowledge of baseband and digital distribution technologies
  • Deep understanding and expertise of live production environments
  • Expertise in SMPTE standards, RGB, YUV, 709/601 color-spaces, codecs, containers, captioning, and time-code
  • Expert level understanding of HEVC, AVC & MPEG-2 compression
  • Familiarity with industry-standard transcoding, streaming, and content creation and workflow technologies like Elemental Live, Verizon upLynk, LiveU, Ustream Producer, Telestream Wirecast, Teradek, Harmonic, etc.

Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, relevant fieldwork required. Technical certifications pertaining to position highly recommended
  • Technical experience with streaming technologies and protocols such as HLS, HDS, DASH, RTMP & RTSP, and stream packaging
  • Knowledge of best practices in image conversion for standards, up/down conversion, framerate, and color space conversions
  • Understanding of audio tracks and channels, audio levels, audio compression formats and conversions
  • Comfortable with handling CEO and other executive-level town halls and earnings briefing presentations
  • Working knowledge of macOS, Windows, and Linux-based operating systems
  • Experience with AWS and other cloud-based transcoding technologies
  • Understanding of DNS, IP, firewalls, bandwidth, network topology, multicast, TCP/UDP protocols
  • Experience with nuances of streaming to social networks including YouTube, Facebook, Twitter/Periscope, and other emerging platforms
  • Basic Knowledge of REST API, JavaScript, HTML, XML, CSS
  • Self-motivated and able to perform directed tasks under minimal supervision
