  • Overview and Responsibilities

    The Senior Art Director will be responsible for collaborating with the on-air and digital brand creative teams in the conceptualizing and production of design communications. Reporting to the VP of Design, you will collaborate with Writers / Producers, Senior Designers, Creative Directors, Editors and other members of the team to develop strategic design solutions - for cross-platform (on-air, social and digital contents).
     
    Working closely with the VP of Design, Creative Directors and Project Managers, the Senior Art Director will assess requests, give art direction, track progress and provide creative feedback. You will also serve as the project lead for select assignments - guiding the design development across all media including on-air, digital & social video package. We will look to the Senior Art Director to maintain the highest creative, conceptual and production standards - producing compelling work with flawless execution -- while constantly ensuring brand integrity and consistency. The candidates must have strong presentation skills and the ability to sell in creative ideas and thinking. Candidate must be a strong team player with a highly collaborative work style in order to work with internal and external creative teams, as well as interface with the network’s senior team.

     

    • Work closely with Creative Directors, Project Managers, Writers/Producers, and Editorial in all aspects of design development for successful cross-platform (on-air, digital, social) design strategies for MTV brand, show launches, on-air tentpoles, and major event campaigns - from interpreting the creative brief, research and development and storyboarding to full production
    • Direct and collaborate with writers, animators, illustrators, designers, and other creatives
    • Present concepts in fully-produced pitches to the internal team as well as outside clients
    • Work closely with the Project Managers to manage graphic schedules, freelance booking/holding, graphic budget, graphic request and project deliverables
    • Work as a hands-on designer when necessary, closely guiding conceptual development through every step of production
      work closely with Project Managers to go over production calendar and project budget for graphics during kick‘‘‘ off meeting
    • Coordinate closely with Editorial Director to ensure consistent messaging across all media
    • Take responsibility to ensure on-time delivery of the highest quality product
    • Build and maintain effective relationships with clients across the department and network, as well as with outside production partners and vendors
    • Art Direct the work of outside design studios and freelances
    • Help maintain and manage an efficient work flow among the team
    • Support, motivate and inspire the designers with encouragement and constructive feedback
    • Manage all on-air spots effectively and efficiently
    • Possess knowledge of current and emerging trends in motion design and computer technology (through books, seminars, annuals, organizations, ); seek out and recommend new best practices
    • Conceptualize and direct video shoots

    Basic Qualifications

    • 9+ years of industry experience
    • 4+ years of art direction / project lead / team management experience
    • Bachelors in Graphic Design, motion graphics, communication design or related field or equivalent experience
    • Experience designing and directing production of branded materials and custom pieces
    • On set experience directing video shoots
    • Successful experience in managing a graphic design team as well as junior staff
    • Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)

    • Flawless communication and presentation skills
    • Working knowledge of Cinema 4D and Final Cut Pro a plus
    • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and campaigns simultaneously in a high- work volume, quick-turnaround environment
