  • Overview and Responsibilities

    The MTV & VH1 Insights & Strategy team exists to put consumer and culture understanding at the center of everything MTV and VH1 do. By staying on top of content trends, consulting syndicated research, and conducting ad hoc quantitative and qualitative research, our purpose is to create guidelines that lead to more relevant content and ultimate more time spent with our brands.

     

    The Senior Director provides strategic direction to advise senior leadership and various departments across content development, creative marketing and brand strategy. This position will serve as a key resource for the SVP Strategy & Insights for MTV, VH1 & Logo, working on strategic recommendations backed with qualitative and quantitative research.

    •  Provide analyses that generate a clear understanding of the target audience, original programs, brand perception and marketing campaigns
    • Oversee and interpret brand tracking efforts to assess brand strengths, weaknesses and opportunities
    • Support the marketing department with consumer insights that lead to more effective creative
    • Provide cultural context to drive existing and new content development, assessing viability and recommending optimizations
    • Oversee the execution of quantitative and qualitative research projects and communicate findings to appropriate audiences, including senior management
    • Consult the latest content and consumer trends through syndicated research resources
    • Serve as an expert on consumer trends, attitudes and media behaviors affecting the entertainment and media industry
    • Collaborate with and manage external research vendors, and serve as overall lead on projects
    • Work on usability testing and projects related to all digital businesses
    • Create ground breaking thought leadership research projects that help the entire organization understand target audiences
    • Keep abreast of the latest media, culture, technology and consumer lifestyle news and trends
    • Provide strategic research support and substantial, actionable insights
    • Travel will sometimes be required to conduct research across the U.S.

     

     

    Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • 10 years + of relevant experience in the entertainment / media landscape

    • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
    • Familiar with programs and strategies of broadcast, cable networks and streaming services

    • Knowledge conceiving, designing, fielding, coordinating, analyzing and disseminating qualitative and quantitative research projects
    • Expertise using consumer-based studies and brand tracking data
    • A pop culture junkie, able to flex in conversation from international politics to memes
    • Insatiably curious, always trying to uncover the why behind everything
    • A big picture thinker who doesn’t get caught in the details and puts things in context
    • Passionate about youth culture and music
    • A conceptual and creative thinker capable of translating insights into ideas
    • An avid consumer of all things content ranging from documentary to film, tv and live events
    • Tech and media adept, especially when it comes to emerging storytelling platforms
